When you hear the term “dangerous goods,” you probably begin thinking about toxic chemicals stored with a radioactive label on them. The simple truth, though, is that many items are considered to be dangerous goods, and that can mean you’ll actually be shipping hazardous materials in your next shipment.
What Are Dangerous Goods?
The IATA defines dangerous goods as any items that can endanger the safety of an aircraft or the people who are on that vehicle. These goods are more common than you think, too. Grout can be a dangerous good, as can some adhesives. Electronic devices all have lithium ion batteries inside, and that is considered a dangerous good as well. Flammable items like perfume and paint, as well as aerosols can be considered dangerous. Likewise, a fire extinguisher is dangerous because of the compressed gas inside.
What Do I Do?
If you do need logistical support for dangerous goods, you’re not out of luck. You just should declare them to your logistics partner. It’s actually up to the logistics company to classify them as dangerous goods, then further break them down by category.
At Performance Plus Global Logistics, we’ll be happy to help you understand more about the dangerous goods requirements and handle the entire shipment for you. Give us a call today to learn more about what we can do to help.
