One good way to ship when you’re moving a number of products via Less Than Truckload shipping (LTL) is called Freight of All Kinds (FAK). What is Freight of All Kinds? It’s a way to simplify moving items that fit into a range of freight classes.

How Does Freight of All Kinds Work?

Let’s say you as the client talk to Performance Plus Global Logistics as the carrier. You have a range of items that need to be shipped. Some are Class 60. These might be car parts. Other items are Class 110. These might be large tools.

Coming up with a charge for each item or group of items in a range of freight classes can become an accounting nightmare. Figuring out the billing in that much detail would be difficult for you and for us. Freight of All Kinds means that we ship all the items as a Class somewhere in the middle.

A straight cut down the middle would mean shipping your Class 60 and Class 110 items all as Class 85. One nice thing about Freight of All Kinds is that it can save you money to ship this way. Depending on the number of each item, we may ship them all as Class 77.5, thus saving you some money over coming up with individual costs for each item.

Savings for Client and Carrier

The goal of FAK is to make things easier for both of us in terms of pricing and billing. Shipping obviously needs to be responsible. Items are logged according to the law. FAK doesn’t mean that you can ship items in a group in a way that’s not legally accountable. It just means that instead of itemizing a cost for each separate commodity, we come up with a group cost.

Used right, this can save you money on shipments that hit a higher freight class. There really are answers out there that help save you and us money.
